Students were given pictures and headings to cut out. These pictures and headings were of events from Jim Crow Laws all the way to schools today. I wanted to make sure that students had an understanding of the order of events in history and the cause and effect of each event. For example, there would have been no segregation had there been no Jim Crow Laws and there would have been no integration had there been no Brown v. Board of Education ruling. I believe that when students have an understanding of history as a story, rather than a list of independent events, they are better able to understand history and interpret the events occurring around them as events that are a result of a bigger story, in which they can influence and impact.
