Literacy in Reading and Writing
Word Study Lesson Plan:
For this assignment, I completed a spelling inventory with a second grade student, and based on her spelling inventory, I concluded that she was in the early within word reading stage (based on the textbook "Words Their Way"). I then created a week long lesson plan tailored to this particular student, that would help her with word study. *All names used are pseudonyms.

Literacy Lesson Plan:
I completed a QRI with the same student that I completed the spelling inventory with. Based on her QRI results, I determined her independent, instructional, and frustration reading levels. I then developed a 5-day lesson plan catered to this students reading levels. The lesson plan includes a daily whole-group activity, a daily guided reading activity, plans for daily independent reading, and a daily writing lesson. *All names used are pseudonyms.

Case Study Assignment: For this assignment, I was asked to create a pretend case study for a second language learner. I had to make up this child's story--where she came from, how old she is, how much experience she has speaking English, what her family is like, and what level she is on the WIDA scale. Then, I had to create speaking, listening, writing and reading assessments that were adapted to meet her needs. |
Context for Assessment: Grade level: 3rd Proficiency level: 3 (developing) by WIDA standards Content area: language arts, science Topic: the fours seasons, cycles and change SOLs: Students will study Life Processes; Cycles, and Change
